Current Market Place Preview

We have seen varied trends & designed product relevant to designer requirements including the grand epiphany of ‘the open office’ which began it’s rampant spread through the majority of offices over a decade ago.

This radical shift against conventional cubicles & private offices was certain to boost communication & improve workflow.   Despite the designers best intentions however, increased noise, lack of privacy & more uncontrolled interactions in ‘the open office’ has all been associated with higher stress, diminished ability to concentrate & diminished productivity.

Those cutting edge polished concrete floors, exposed brick walls (some clad in faux grass) swings etc..etc.. all look excellent but are more ‘experience focussed’ than ‘quiet & content’ productivity, the resultant & ambient noise reverberation can however be addressed with “Screen Solutions” - Screen Options & Acoustic Art

History

Further back in the 1980’s the occurrence of R.S.I. was recognised within the office, genuine worker injuries subsequently caused due to ‘rapid keystroke movement of fingers with static loaded arm muscles’, a very non relaxed posture over the then considered “modern electronic keyboards”. (ref: tendons/synovial sheaths/depleting of synovial fluid).

“Posture” & Frequent Breaks was realised to be the best remedy for this modern malaise, however, to achieve the desired posture meant height adjustment was necessary for both keyboard & monitor - our Screen Solutions director, designed & manufactured such workstations to achieve what was to be the 90 degree rule, this rule continues to today.

Current Situation

Sedentary working style is again the focus of review, proven health benefits of the Sit/Stand workstation, have come to the fore.  Too much attention has however been focussed on the standing aspect and sitting less when a mixture of the two postures is vital with posture changes recommended every 30 to 60 minutes.

So having an adjustable workstation does not mean you are free from all ergonomic risk, the 80’s findings of relevant hand, shoulder, head position to keyboard, mouse & monitor still apply.  The posture you choose is very important, follow the anthropometric chart as a recommendation, ensure shoulders aren’t hunched, sit with good lumbar support, stand with same arm/aspect to desk, to alleviate a ‘standing bad back’ try one foot on a small stool, change your posture often.

Make an informed choice

Our experience would suggest be wary of adjustable platforms that sit on a desk & can be manually adjusted, if  these adjustments cannot be made simply to allow for ideal ‘hand working height’, awkward posture with risk of discomfort & fatigue is increased.

Solution

The answer is of course:

•   Screen Solutions  infinitely height adjustable workstation,

•   Vary your postures every 30 to 60 minutes to avoid longer duration at either of the Sit/Stand postures.

•   Be aware of the 90 degree rule & the “best posture is the next posture”.

•   Become the office Yogi, preserve your healthy posture.

•   The workstation alone will not address ambient noise reverberation but Screen Solutions “Screen Options” or “Acoustic Art” will.
